Preparing the Path for the Vision Quest at AyaPuma Samay
Each year, before the vision questers ascend the mountain for their ceremonial fast, our community comes together to prepare the territory that will receive them. We call this collective work a minga, an ancient Andean tradition of community service in which many hands unite around a shared purpose.
Mingas are more than workdays. They are spaces for gathering, learning, cooperation, and gratitude toward the land that sustains us. Every trail cleared, every stone placed, every structure repaired, and every altar prepared becomes part of the prayer that precedes the Vision Quest.
Throughout June and July, we will hold several mingas focused on trail maintenance, infrastructure repairs, construction and preparation of ceremonial spaces, tipi assembly, temazcal construction, and general care of the territory. These efforts help ensure that AyaPuma Samay is ready to welcome the vision seekers, their families, and all those who accompany this spiritual journey.
The Pre-Camp: Our Great Community Minga
From July 30 to August 6, 2026, we will hold the Vision Quest Pre-Camp, a special week that can be understood as the great annual minga of AyaPuma Samay.
During these days, we will focus on final preparations, reviewing every aspect of the camp, checking ceremonial spaces, organizing common areas, preparing materials, completing constructions, and making sure everything is ready for the official opening of the Vision Quest on August 7.
The Pre-Camp is also an opportunity to experience community life at AyaPuma Samay. Many people who will later participate in the Vision Quest, the Sun Dance, or other ceremonies choose to join these days of service, connection, and preparation.
Service to the Land and to Life
Participating in a minga is a meaningful way to support the preservation and care of AyaPuma Samay. Our territory protects Andean cloud forest, water sources, ancestral trails, and ceremonial spaces that are maintained through the collective effort of those committed to nature, culture, and the principles of Sumak Kawsay.
No previous experience is necessary. The most important thing is to arrive with a willingness to serve, learn, and share.
Every tool lifted, every hour of work, and every act of generosity becomes part of the path that makes the Vision Quest possible.
